with English version

■アメリカだからなのか、MIT周辺だからなのか知らないけれど、やたらアート関係のパーティーが多くて、しかも結構、毎回面白い人と会えるので、つい行ってしまう。日本にいるときはあまりそういう場に出て楽しい思いをしたことがないというか、なんか知り合いにさらっと挨拶しておしまい、みたいな感じで、だんだん行かなくなってしまった。昨日はクシュトフ・ウディチコを紹介されて、緊張しつつも、彼の作品について少し考えていたことを話すことが出来た。そういえばその前日は、「クール・ジャパン」とかいう名で、日本のクールについて語り合う、いかがわしいスタディ・ミーティングがMITであって、これも行ってみた。まあ、予想通りというかなんというか、結構ベタな日本のポップカルチャー分析みたいなことを、まあ軽い感じでやってて、なんだかなあ、と。僕は「カタカナ」という言語の寄与みたいなことを言ってみたんだけど、あんまり反応してもらえなかったなあ。

I'm not sure why though, there are lots of art-related parties around me. Everytime I go, I can get some oppotunity to talk with fascinating people. While being in Japan, I hadn't experienced such pleasant feeling, like just greeting acquaitances and that's all, so I ended up not going those kinds of parties. Yesterday, I was introduced Krzysztof Wodiczko and could talk with him a bit. Yes, on Thursday I attended the monthly study meeting which was organized by the professor of MIT, the theme of the meeting is "cool Japan" and we literally discuss about "coolness" of Japan( but it seems to me that the actual topic was "weirdness" though...). I attemted to argue the contribution of Katakana but anybody seemed not to be curious about that.
